Investor Education for Working Families
Welcome to the Investor Education program, the place where AFSCME members, retirees and staff gain the knowledge and skills they need for a lifetime of investment and financial success. The Investor Education for Working Families workshops provide bias-free personal investment learning opportunities through self-paced online classes and resource materials specially designed for union members and their families. A solid retirement depends on Social Security, traditional pensions, and personal savings and investments. These workshops help you solidify your personal investing skills.

The AFSCME Investor Education Program
The Investor Education program will provide members access to quality investment education in a convenient, on demand format. The classes in this program offer members information on the key issues of personal financial planning including goal setting, budgeting, debt management, retirement planning, saving, and insurance. Also included are classes on stock and mutual fund investing, providing information on key investment topics such as understanding risk and reward, regulation and investor protection, asset allocation, diversification, compounding, nominal and real returns, identifying quality investments, and valuation.

Once equipped with a solid foundation in personal financial planning and investing, participants will be ready to use their new-found knowledge toward implementing a long-term investment strategy in stocks or mutual funds, or both.

This strategy is based on the BetterInvesting methodology that has helped millions of individuals over the past fifty-five years become successful investors. To help get acclimated to this style of investing, participants will be able to test their abilities in a game/competition prior to going out into the markets.
